Weelde Town Hall – Ravels

The town hall of Weelde, designed by Jozef Schellekens, was completed in 1958. The modernist design, with its S-shaped floor plan, yellow brickwork and striking balcony, reflects Schellekens’ vision.
Hoogstraten Town Hall

The town hall of Hoogstraten was destroyed in 1944 by the collapse of the church tower. Jozef Schellekens led the restoration, which he had already made detailed measurements for as a student in 1934. He implemented several interior modifications to allow the building to continue functioning as a town hall.
Rivierenhof Open-Air Theatre

Jozef Schellekens developed a new plan for the Open-Air Theatre in Rivierenhof after an earlier design proved disappointing. Due to budgetary and wartime restrictions, construction did not begin until 1951. It was opened in 1953 and was warmly received.
The Death of Jozef Schellekens

Jozef Schellekens passed away on February 24, 1963. His work, which combined modernist principles with a deep respect for functionality and environment, lives on in numerous buildings and projects in the Campine region. Schellekens left an enduring mark on the architectural landscape of his region.
Zilvermeer Provincial Recreation Park

Jozef Schellekens played an important role in the development of Zilvermeer in Mol during the 1950s. As provincial architect, he designed both the buildings and infrastructure of the recreation park, focussing on functionality and a harmonious integration with nature.
De Coster Prize

In 1933, he graduated as valedictorian with two modernist projects, however different they were: an Airport and a Village Church, with which he won the De Coster Prize (first prize of excellence with gold medal).
Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp

Schellekens, who was not satisfied with his polytechnic degree, continued his architecture studies in 1931 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp after completing his military service.
