After St. Dimpna Church in Geel was severely damaged in 1944, an emergency procedure for its preservation was followed. Jozef Schellekens designed the restoration with a new roof construction, tower elevation and façade renovation. He documented the process in ‘The Restoration of St. Dimpna Church in Geel’ and was awarded the papal distinction, ‘Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice’, for his work.
