On November 1 that year, Schellekens, only 28 years old, was appointed provincial architect for the Turnhout district, based on his numerous distinctions and his experience in the provincial office, and supported by his mentor Taeymans. This appointment marked the beginning of a new era for Schellekens in more ways than one.
