During a celebration of the cultural association Hoger Leven of the Catholic University Extension in Turnhout, he met Maria Van den Bosch, 25 years old and unmarried. In July 1943, they confirm their engagement, and on October 20, 1943, almost exactly one year after Mietje’s death, the marriage between Jozef Schellekens and Maria Van den Bosch is celebrated.
