We had the pleasure of welcoming 85 students and faculty members from the first year of architecture at Ghent University to the Atelier Carli Vanhout & Paul Schellekens.
During their excursion in Turnhout, the students were able to delve into the story of the Turnhout School. In addition to their visit to the atelier, they also made stops at several iconic locations such as the residence of Paul Neefs, the residence of Paul Schellekens, and the De Warande Cultural Centre.
The bus also stopped briefly at the residence of Jozef Schellekens to explore the history of Turnhout architecture further.
As an assignment, the students were put into small groups and tasked with providing explanations about the visited residences, which led to fascinating insights and new perspectives on the characteristic architecture of Turnhout.
We find it particularly valuable to see how the new generation honours the old and shows respect for the rich architectural history that has shaped their field.
